The US allowed North Korea to build more nuclear weapons!

In an interview on Fresh Air on NPR, nuclear weapons expert Joseph Cirincione states flatly that by refusing to negotiate with North Korea in 2002, the Bush administration directly caused North Korea to quadruple its weapons fuel stockpile and to carry out a nuclear test. He argues that if the USA had continued to negotiate with the Koreans, that would not have happened.

This is exactly what I've been noticing about the handling of the North Korea nuclear crisis: by ignoring the Koreans and focusing on Iraq and Saddam, the neocons ignored the real weapons threat, and made up a fake one to further their ideological aims for destabilizing the Middle East.

In the end, it sets up the worst possible precedent: The US will refuse to negotiate and possibly invade and destroy a country if it might get weapons, but once the weapons are there, we'll treat them with kid gloves. If you were a small country threatened by the US, wouldn't you want nukes too?!??
